When you land in Copenhagen and step out of baggage claim, you’ll see a few different ways of getting downtown. In this post are the options you have based on your budget and preference from the Copenhagen airport to the city center. Let’s go over them from the most budget friendly to the most comfortable and convenient.
Most major international airports tend to land in the capital city or nearby. Copenhagen’s airport is located in Kastrup just over 7 km (4.4 miles) to downtown.

Public Transportation
The most cost effective way to get around Copenhagen is public transportation. Due to the city’s geography this includes bus, metro, water bus, and train. From the airport, all of these options are possible except the water bus.
The train is one of the fastest ways of getting from the airport to the city center. It’ll take about 15 minutes to get to the Copenhagen Central Station which connects to the main train station going to lots of other cities around the country. A train leaves every 5 minutes and costs 30 DKK (USD$4.20) one way.
If you’re heading towards Nyhavn, then the fastest way is via metro. You’ll take the M2, yellow line which takes you straight there. It leaves every 6 minutes and takes about 15 minutes for the 8 stops. It costs 30 DKK (USD$4.20) one way.
The bus is the third public transportation option. It’s the slowest of them all as it can vary by traffic. If you’re staying by Rosenborg Castle then you can take bus 5C from outside the airport. It’s 26 stops and takes about 40 minutes. It costs 30 DKK (USD$4.20) one way.

Copenhagen City Card
The Copenhagen City Card lets you see the sights at your own pace while enjoying free entrance to 80+ attractions. You can choose between 24 to 120 hour card options which includes public transportation. You can purchase your card here.
Private transfer
A private transfer is a great way to know exactly what you’ll pay before getting into the car. This is a great way to get downtown comfortably and with ease. You can pre book your transfer so you don’t need to worry about figuring it out the moment you land.
Taxi
The most direct way is always a taxi, but of course it’s the most expensive way. There is a taxi sign outside the airport where you can get in line and wait for the next taxi available.
