When you land in Lisbon and step out of the Humberto Delgado airport, you’ll see a few different ways of getting into the city center. In this post you’ll have a few different options based on your budget and preference. Let’s go over them.

Private Transfer
If you’re traveling with some friends, then a private transfer will be a convenient and comfortable option as you can split it between all of you. This would be the most cost effective and quickest way to get from the Lisbon airport to the city center. If you’re looking to go to Cascais, Estoril or Sintra, then you’ll opt for this option.
RideShare
RideShare apps are very common in Portugal and a simple way to get from the Lisbon airport to the city. Uber is a very common ride share app worldwide and you can also use it here, but I recommend Bolt. Bolt isn’t as common worldwide, but used often here and more economical than Uber.
Shuttle Bus
A cheaper alternative to a taxi, but still pretty private and comfortable. You can opt for a shared airport shuttle bus transfer. You’ll reserve it in advance for door to door service. I have not used this service before and the reviews do not seem to be the best, so use at your own discretion.
Public Transportation
There are two public transportation options you have: bus and metro. For either you’ll need a Navegante card. It’s 50 cents for the card and then you can add money to it. The minimum you can add is 3 euros with the max being 40. Once you have money on the card, each time you use it you’ll be ‘zapping’. Each zap costs 1.61 euros for the metro or bus instead of 1.80 per ride.
Bus
If you’re going to Baixa-Chaido, Alfama or Rossio you’ll most likely have to take two buses or a bus and a metro. The bus line that will get you the closest is bus 708.
Metro
Lisbon has a metro that goes all the way to the airport, the red line. You’ll take the metro to Alameda to switch to the green line, to Saldanha to switch to the yellow line or to Sao Sebastiao to switch to the blue line.
Taxi
The most direct way is always a taxi, but of course it’s the most expensive way. When you step outside you’ll see a sign on where to grab a taxi.
Scam to watch out for
Before you get to that point you’ll come across scam taxis as soon as you step beyond customs. There will be people standing there looking to be waiting for someone arriving, usually men, who will ask people arriving if they want a taxi. I’ve never taken one and I wouldn’t recommend it if you haven’t pre-booked them. They won’t be holding signs and will look like regular people. Better to be cautious!
