Lisbon has gotten increasingly popular over the years and believe me, I get the hype! There are many reasons why it should be on your radar, one reason being its breathtaking viewpoints. Beautiful sights are common when walking around the Portuguese capital, but the views hit different when you see them from above. Now that I’ve been living in Portugal for over a year, I’ve had a chance to explore lots and I’m excited to share it with you. Let’s get into the best viewpoints in Lisbon!
The viewpoints below are separated by neighborhoods and mention if there is a fee to view. Most of the Lisbon lookout points are free with very few exceptions. I hope you enjoy and get to visit as many as you’re interested in. At the very bottom are other relation Portugal posts to help plan your trip to my new home country!

Lisbon Viewpoints
Alfama
Castelo de São Jorge (St George Castle)
One of the most known viewpoints in Lisbon is from the Castelo de São Jorge (St George Castle). From here you’ll look over Alfama right below to the cathedral, Plaza do Comercio, and even the red April 25th bridge ahead in the distance. Sunset is the best time to enjoy this view, but it’s beautiful all day long. To access the castle you will need a ticket which you can purchase here.
🎟️: $21
Saint Luzia
Known as one of the most picturesque viewpoints of Lisbon, St Luzia has beautiful blue tiles and flower vines during spring and summertime. Definitely worth going here for sunrise as it faces east.
Personally, I think the location itself is prettier than the view you get. When there’s cruise ships in town, they’ll be in the backdrop of your photos which I don’t really like. To each their own though!
🎟️: free
Portas do Sol
This viewpoint is right near Saint Luzia so it is worth visiting both together. From here you’ll see the river, traditional Alfama houses with the red roofs and churches. It’s more spacious here compared to Saint Luzia but doesn’t have an awning so the sun will be stronger here in the summer.
🎟️: free
National Pantheon
This 17th century baroque church turned into a modern-day mausoleum for tombs of national celebrities. You’ll want to visit this spot when in the Alfama neighborhood. Make sure to go to the top to get an amazing view!
🎟️: 8 euros
Sao Vicente de Fora Monastery
The Sao Vicente de Fora monastery and church is filled with art and the burial place of the Braganza monarchs of Portugal. From here you’ll get a nice view of Alfama from above.
🎟️: 8 euros
Mercado de Santa Clara
This one is technically not a viewpoint but you will get nice views of Alfama while doing some shopping at one of Lisbon’s oldest antique fairs. The famous Feira da Ladra is every Tuesday and Saturday from around 10am to 2pm. Take in the views while finding unique finds.
🎟️: free
Santo Estevão Lookout Point
This viewpoint is right next to the Santo Estevão church that has a terrace with a bar. Your view here will be mainly of Alfama and the Tagus River.
🎟️: free
Recolhimento Viewpoint
Just a few blocks from the Sao Jorge Castle is the Recolhimento Viewpoint. There’s a playground and benches to take in views of Alfama.
🎟️: free
Graça
Senhora do Monte
A beautiful sunset spot is the Senhora do Monte. It’s the highest point in the neighborhood so the panoramic views will be worth the climb. In the distance you’ll see the 25th of April bridge and the Christ the King in Almada.
🎟️: free
Miradouro da Graça
Right next to the Graça church, which includes a convent and burial site, is one of the most beautiful viewpoints. There’s a kiosk here to have a drink or small bites while you take in the sunset. From here you’ll also see a view of the Castelo de São Jorge and Lisbon from above. It’s a perfect date spot or a get together with friends.
🎟️: free
Arroios
Monte Agudo
This lookout point is more of a hidden gem that is popular with locals. There’s a small bar that sells drinks and coffee. Perfect for a more intimate date spot or to clear your head from the hustle and bustle of the city.
🎟️: free
Santo Antonio
Jardim do Torel
This small yet scenic park is popular amongst young locals. There are a few benches but if the weather is nice then bring a blanket to lay out and have a picnic with friends. During the summer months, the pool down the stairs gets filled and you can jump in! I tried going during the week and it was empty so I suggest going during the weekend, but early so it’s not too crowded.
🎟️: free
Estrela
Basilica de Estrela
Just south of one of the best parks in Lisbon is the Basilica of Estrela which gives visitors a unique viewpoint. Most look out spots are in Alfama and more popular regions, but this one is in a residential one so you’ll get views of those other neighborhoods. Entering the basilica is free but to get to the viewpoint it’s 4 euros which you can buy at the basilica.
🎟️: 4 euros
Rocha Conde de Óbidos Rock Viewpoint
Located right near the Lisbon port is this viewpoint. It’s a perfect spot for a picnic or drink with a view when walking along the river. It’s a small park right next to the National Ancient Art Museum. The park area also has a restaurant, Catch me Lisboa, to enjoy the same view.
🎟️: free
Avenidas Novas
Eduardo VII Park
This park is the largest one in Lisbon and a visit regardless of the season. From the top of the park you can view manicured lawns with nice patterns and the river in the distance.
During Christmas time, the park is transformed into Winter Wonderland with rides, food, and games!
🎟️: free
Amoreiras
Amoreiras 360º Panoramic View
On the roof of the Amoreiras shopping center is this open-air viewpoint of Lisbon. It is the tallest building in Lisbon due to its location. This part of the city is the highest.
🎟️: 5 euros for adults, varying prices for different age groups.
