Portugal Group Trip Itinerary

Please note this trip starts in Lisbon and ends in Porto. I will be returning to Lisbon after the end of the trip and will be happy to help you get back to Lisbon either on your own or with me! Whichever works best for you.

Day 1: Lisbon

Due to varying arrival times, our tour will officially start in the afternoon, after lunch time. We’ll start by heading to a spot to see the sunset over the Tagus River before heading to dinner! Here we’ll have the option to try typical Portuguese food to get accustomed to our new destination.

Day 2: Lisbon and Belem

A fun way to get around Lisbon is via TukTuk. Since we’re a small group, we’ll decide if we prefer to do this in the morning or afternoon. If we do it in the morning then it’s a great way to get used to our surroundings and know if there’s any place we want to go back to. Otherwise we can choose to sleep in in the morning and do the tour in the afternoon. It’s up to us!

During the tour, we’ll be going around the Old Town of Lisbon and to Belem to try the original Pasteis de Belem.

The other half of the day, whether morning or afternoon, will be free time for us to get some shopping in and explore more of the Portuguese capital.

Day 3: Sintra

This will be a full day adventure where we’ll go to the famously beautiful Pena Palace, epic circular stairwell at the Quinta da Regaleira, and the beach side town of Cascais. Be prepared for a day of fun seeing some of Portugal’s most iconic spots!

Day 4: Lisbon and Obidos

We’ll start the day in Lisbon. After a full day yesterday we can sleep in or get some last minute shopping before heading off to a new city! It’s about an hour and a half drive to Obidos where we’ll spend the night. Take this time to relax and enjoy the view through part of Portugal.

Once we arrive we’ll check into our hotel and walk around this beautiful medieval town. It’s small, but worth visiting due to its small town charm. Obidos has a castle, walls, and white colored houses. It’s pretty well preserved and I know you’ll love the bougainvillea we’ll see as we walk around.

Day 5: Obidos and Duoro Valley

In the morning we’ll have breakfast and do a walking tour around Obidos to learn more about the town’s history.

From here we’ll start making our way north to the Duoro Valley also known as Portugal’s Wine Region. It’s about a 2 and a half hour drive, but we’ll be able to make stops along the way if needed. Once we check in we’ll have some time to walk around and have dinner.

Day 6: Douro Valley

Now that we’re in wine country, we’ll be doing lots of wine tastings! We’ll start with a filling breakfast then take a 30 minute drive to a small town along the river. Here we’ll be doing a wine tasting, boat ride, and a short tour of the beautiful train station.

Once we head back over to Lamego, where we’ll be sleeping, we’ll be doing another wine tasting at a vineyard, called Quintas in Portuguese.

Day 7: Douro Valley and Porto

During the morning time we can choose between having free time in Lamego, the town we are staying in, or head to another town called Vila Real. In Lamego, we would explore the Old Town and the stairs that lead to the cathedral. In Vila Real we would visit a beautiful palace and do a wine tasting before heading to Porto.

Due to the small group, we have this flexibility! We’ll have to decide a couple of days beforehand to make sure we can secure our spots for the wine tasting.

Depending on which city we leave from it will take anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half to get into Porto. One of our first experiences here will be watching the sunset over the Duoro river. The view is spectacular and you’ll see why! So many people gather to watch this daily.

Day 8: Porto

This is our last full day so we’ll do as much as we can! To get used to our new surroundings, we start off with a morning walking tour. This way we can see the best spots around the city.

The afternoon will be free time to explore on your own or we can stick together. I’m happy to share other spots to check out that we may not have had a chance to see during the morning.

We’ll all get back together to enjoy some Fado, typical Portuguese music style, and then for our final dinner! I have a few options for this last one, so once the group is together we’ll decide which vibe you prefer.

Day 9: Airport Day

Our amazing Portugal group trip has come to an end! I’m so glad that you have chosen to spend these 9 days with me. Today we’ll only have breakfast and free time until it’s time to head to the airport.

I will be heading back to Lisbon so if you prefer to do a roundtrip into and out of Lisbon, you can take the bus back with me! Just let me know what time your flight is at so we can best coordinate.
