The Yucatan Peninsula is a very popular spot to visit in Mexico. Getting around is not difficult and does not have to be expensive. In this post you’ll find a variety of ways of getting from the Cancun airport to Playa del Carmen and other cities in the area.
As you are planning your trip to this region, use my Mexico Caribbean Tips so that you have the best time. They’re a collection of tips and thoughts I had when traveling around. It includes things you shouldn’t miss and ones to be wary of.

ADO Bus
The ADO bus is one of the easiest ways to move around the Yucatan Peninsula. From the Cancun Airport you can easily get to Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Valladolid, Merida, and more. You can book tickets in person at the airport or stations in various cities to move around, but the easiest way is on their website or via their app. This is an economical way to move around that is quick and easy.
Private Transfer
A private transfer is one of the most comfortable ways to get from the Cancun Airport to Playa del Carmen. You’ll travel in a private SUV with WiFi and air conditioning onboard. There is water and alcoholic drinks available to consume during your trip. This is a door to door service so you don’t need to worry about stopping at all along the way. Book a one way transfer!
Taxi
The most direct way without much planning beforehand is always a taxi, but of course it’s the most expensive way. As soon as you step outside you’ll be swarmed by people asking if you’re looking for a taxi. I recommend getting a set price or confirming that they use a meter before getting in.
If you are staying in Cancun you can use Uber, but unfortunately you won’t be able to take it all the way to Playa del Carmen.
